A mass burial has been organised for the 30 cows found dead on Sunday in Akungba Akoko, Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The cows that died “mysteriously” were owned by one Ibrahim Saliu.
The traditional ruler of the town, the Alale of Akungba Akoko, Oba Sunday Ajimo, had warned that the dead cows should not be sold to the residents.
To prevent disease outbreak in the community, it was gathered, the health officials from the Akoko South West Local Government Area had begun monitoring markets and food shops to ensure that the meat of the dead animals was not sold to the people.
The Environmental Director of the council, Mrs Adenike Olugboyega, confirmed that the dead cows had been buried at the council’s dumpsite.
“The burial was supervised by environmental experts according to laid down rules and regulations in order to ensure that contaminated and poisonous cow meat don’t find its way into the markets for public consumption,” she stated.
Similarly, a community leader and Seriki Musulumi of Akungba Akoko, Chief Saliu Awesu, commended the proactive steps of the local government environmental workers who quickly evacuated the dead cows for burial.
