Governor Abdullahi Ganduje-led Kano State government has banned an Islamic cleric, Sheikh Abduljabar Sheikh Nasir Kabara from preaching in the state for his mode of teachings considered too incendiary.
The state government also ordered that all seminaries run by the cleric be shut down pending investigation by security agencies.

He was one of the Ulamas that endorsed Bola Ahmed Tinubu for presidency during the recent visit of the APC leader to Kano. Of the Ulamas that spoke at the meeting, Sheikh Abduljabar was the most unequivocal declaring Tinubu as “presidential candidate” even when the former Lagos State governor was yet to officially declare his intention to run for the presidency.
The state government communicated its ban on the Sheikh on Thursday through a statement signed by the state Commissioner of Information, Malam Muhammad Garba.
Garba said the decision was part of the state Executive Council’s resolutions at its weekly meeting held on Wednesday.
He further stated that the council has directed all broadcast stations and social media platforms to abstain from airing of such enflaming preaching, sermons, propagation and any other religious discussions in the interest of peace and tranquillity in the state.
This is even as he said security agencies have been directed to ensure full compliance and take decisive action against any person or group found flouting the order.
The cleric has always been considered too controversial with his messages and reported attacks on the companions of Prophet Muhammad PBUH in his messages.
Sheikh Abduljabbar, who is known to be of Qadiriyya movement often challenge the companions of the prophet for reporting Hadiths that were not said by prophet Muhammad PBUH and asking his followers to disregard such Hadiths.
Recently, clerics from other sects in Kano have protested against the acts and messages of Abduljabbar in their Friday sermons, which according to them look like a Shiite practices, urging the state government to take action against him.
Meanwhile there is a heavy security presence around the residence of Sheik Abdujabbar Nasiru Kabara in Gwale of Gwale Local Government area of Kano metropolis.
About five vehicles of heavily armed security operatives, ranging from police to Department of State Security (DSS) operatives, and Civil Defence among others who besieged the house to enforce the ban enforced on the cleric.
They, however, did not stop followers and sympathisers from entering the house.
Hundreds of followers were seen around the house and mosque premises of the cleric sympathising over the State Government’s action.
