Manchester United could be set to clash with one of Europe’s top clubs in the next round of the Europa League.
Erik ten Hag’s men qualified for the knockout stages of the competition on Thursday, thanks to a 3-0 win over Sheriff Tiraspol.
Diogo Dalot, Marcus Rashford and Cristiano Ronaldo all scored as United took maximum points.
The win took the Red Devils to 12 points, three below Group E leaders Real Sociedad.
Teams that finish second in the Europa League will qualify for the Round of 32 instead of the last 16.
This means second-placed United are likely to take on one of the Champions League third-place finishers, which already includes European heavyweights Juventus, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
To finish top of the group, United must win at Sociedad next week by three goals or more.
