A young man who reportedly led the attack that led to the killing of 16 Soldiers of the Nigerian Army in Delta State has spoken about the said incident.

It is unclear why the young man who spoke from his hideout, described the video as his “last video”.

The attack in Okuama led to the death of four Officers and 12 Soldiers of 181 Amphibious Battalion based in Asaba, Delta State.

According to reports, the troops were responding to a crisis between Okuama and Okoloba communities in Delta State when they were ambushed and killed. A Commanding Officer, two Majors, one Captain, and twelve soldiers sadly lost their lives. One civilian was also killed.

However, the young man, who claimed to be the son of a retired Captain of the Nigerian Army, who is now late, said the soldiers did not come on a peace mission as they claimed.

Rather, he said they were backing Okoloba and were working for a former Nigerian militant leader and ex-militant commander of the Movement for Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND), Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo.

He said that was not even their first visit to the community. He said they only resisted their attempt to take the leaders of the community away.

It was gathered that soldiers have traced the militant leader allegedly behind last Thursday’s killing of 16 soldiers at Okuama Ughelli South Local Government Area, Delta State, to the riverine Igbomoturu community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, where they killed some youths, who resisted their incursion, and razed some houses belonging to militants.
