Governor Seyi Makinde has formally approved the appointment of a new Alaafin of Oyo.
A statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, revealed that after thorough consultations and divinations, Prince Abimbola Akeem Owoade has been recommended by the Oyomesi and subsequently approved by the Governor of Oyo State.
The Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ademola Ojo, issued a statement confirming this development, which he said puts an end to the socio-legal disputes that followed the passing of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, on 22nd April 2022.

The full name of the new Alaafin is Prince Abimbola Akeem Owoade.
He hails from the royal Owoade-Agunloye family of Oyo and is one of the surviving children of Pa Rasaki Ibiyosi Owoade.
His lineage traces back to Aremo Aderounmu Iyanda Owoade of Agure Compound, Oyo, solidifying his deep-rooted connection to the cultural and historical fabric of the Oyo Kingdom.
Prince Owoade attended Baptist High School in Saki and later obtained a National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from The Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro (1994–1997).
He pursued a Higher National Diploma in the same field at The Polytechnic, Ibadan (1999–2001).
Continuing his academic journey, Prince Owoade furthered his education in the United Kingdom, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Sunderland in 2008, followed by a Master of Science in the same field from Northumbria University in 2012.
Prince Owoade’s professional career spans multiple countries and industries. He began as a Planning Engineer at Oil Reach Company in Glasgow, UK, and is currently a Project Coordinator at Manitoba Hydro in Canada.
Additionally, he serves as the president of 100279 Manitoba Limited, a company focused on real estate and financial services, showcasing his business acumen and leadership in the corporate sector.
This appointment signals the beginning of a new chapter for the Oyo Kingdom, with Prince Owoade poised to continue the legacy of leadership and cultural preservation established by his predecessors.
