The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has summoned Subomi and Wahab, the sons of billionaire industrialist Razaq Okoya, for questioning regarding alleged naira abuse.

In a notice issued by Michael Wetkas, Acting Director of the Lagos Directorate of the EFCC, the agency has instructed the two men to appear before the head of the Special Operations Team at its office located at 15A Awolowo Road, Lagos, by 10 a.m. on Monday, 13th January 2025.

TheLeadng had reported that the Nigeria Police Force faced widespread criticism for detaining an officer who appeared in a viral video with billionaire businessman Razaq Okoya’s sons.

The video showed the officer helping Okoya’s sons carry bundles of cash as one of them promoted his new song “Credit Alert”.

Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stated this on his X handle on Friday.

According to him, the moment captured in the video involving the police officer is unethical and contrary to the values of the force, stressing that disciplinary action is underway to address the misconduct.

Adejobi wrote, “The policeman captured in the recent viral video shared by the sons of the Lagos businessman, Chief Okoya, where they were abusing the naira, has been identified and detained for disciplinary action.

“The involvement of the policeman has been condemned, as it’s unethical. We will always strive hard to uphold the sanctity, credibility, and core values of the police. Thanks.”

The police statement, condemning the officer’s actions and announcing disciplinary action, has sparked outrage on social media.

Many are questioning why the Okoya brothers are not facing the same treatment for allegedly abusing the naira.

Cross dresser Bobrisky was penalised and charged for Naira mutilation in 2024.

Netizens have taken to social media platforms to express discontent with the police handling of the Okoyas.

Olamide_15 stated: “They should release the póor man and take legal actions against Naira abuse.”

Ego Umez wondered: “And the billionaire sons you claim abusing Naira? What will happen? Meanwhile, I can’t see any abuse of the Naira here “

Morsh101 asked: “Nah the policeman abuse the Naira?? What will happen to the culprit that abused the so-called Naira?”

Pattie2 wrote: “How about the boy who committed the crime?”

Sean Awofodu-Johnson stated: “The son of a rich man abuse money , you are disciplining the police officer assigned to the boy for doing the job he’s assigned to do. Hmmm that’s a cowardly move, why not arrest okoya’s son for abuse of money abi he’s above the law because e get money ? Money stops nonsense in Nigeria , please try have MONEY o. Ire o”.

Meanwhile one of the Okoyas, Subomi, has apologised to the police in a post on X, saying he was not fully aware of the consequences of his actions.

“To the Nigerian people, my actions were not to cause any trouble or harm. My intentions were pure and naive.

“I ask for your forgiveness and support in this situation as I had no intention to raise such an alarm. I wasn’t fully aware of the consequences of my action,” he wrote.
