The Agege Local Government Area of Lagos State has sealed off the popular ‘Mosalasi Alhaja’ mosque due to a leadership dispute following the death of the Chief Imam, Sheikh Habib Abdulmajid.

The decision was made by the Executive Chairman of Agege Local Government, Chief Ganiyu Egunjobi, in an effort to maintain public peace.

Tensions flared between the family of the late Imam and his deputy, Sheikh Mustapha Muktar, over the leadership of the mosque.

Egunjobi issued the directive to seal the mosque in order to prevent any escalation of the conflict, which he noted was also straining relations within the local Hausa community.

The council chairman visited the mosque to oversee the enforcement of the order and assured the public that security would be reinforced to maintain peace in the area.

He further stated that both parties involved would be invited to a stakeholders’ meeting to address the leadership dispute and restore normalcy to the mosque and the community.
