A group, Arewa 2023 Agenda for Peaceful Transition has claimed that the revelation by the national secretary of All Progressives Congress (APC) Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), Senator John Akpanudoedehe on plans to have a consensus presidential candidate in 2023, has confirmed its earlier raised alarm that the party plans to give its ticket to former President Goodluck Jonathan.

The group in a statement by its national chairman, Usaini Ibrahim, in Kaduna yesterday, said the plan for a Jonathan Presidency on the APC’s platform contradicts the numerous criticisms of the party by the former president.

Although, the group said former President Jonathan has the right to contest in 2023,”Without prejudice to the right of former president Jonathan to run for the presidency of Nigeria again but under a new party platform, it raises moral questions about the ruling party’s boastful credentials of instituting change and the condemnation of his era as the worst in recent history.”

Ibrahim said, “Some Nigerians were initially doubting us on the grand plot to foist former president on the APC in 2023.”

It would be recalled that, APC national secretary, Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), Senator John Akpanudoedehe in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday said, “Unlike the opposition, we are a disciplined party. PDP is just being haunted by its past. You will recall the inglorious third term agenda while PDP was in power. So, it is easy to accuse APC now.”

“After our (APC) congresses and the national convention, we will shock them (PDP) by bringing a consensus and an agreeable candidate that will fly the flag of the party come 2023. APC has no third term agenda like PDP,” Akpanudoedehe added.
