There is growing tension in Rivers state as state lawmakers commence the process of removing the governor, Siminalayi Fubara over his alleged rift with his predecessor and Minister of Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nysom Wike.

TheLeadng observed that pro-Wike lawmakers have purportedly removed the House leader, Eddison Ehie, to pave the way for Fubara’s removal.

The House leader is said to have been blocking moves aimed at removing Fubara.

TheLeadng had earlier reported that the Rivers State House of Assembly was engulfed in fire yesterday as explosives hit the complex

The fire, which was reported at about 9.35pm on Sunday, caused the destruction of some properties before firefighters were able to put it off.

48-year-old Fubara previously served as accountant general of the Rivers State. He was born in Opobo Town in Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area of Rivers State.

In May 2022, Fubara and 58 other government officials were declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for a NGN 435 billion fraud. He was also wanted for a NGN 117 billion fraud alongside four other Rivers State government officials. Additional charges by the EFCC included alleged criminal conspiracy, money laundering, misappropriation of public funds, and abuse of office.
