Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has dismissed the recent suspension announcement from the former national chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure, as a “desperate act by a clown looking for a crown.”
Otti, through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Ferdinand Ekeoma, issued a statement on Wednesday, accusing Abure of continuing his antics despite a ruling by the Supreme Court which declared that Abure is no longer the national chairman of the party.
The Governor called for immediate action, urging the Inspector-General of Police to arrest Abure for impersonation. Otti also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure the full implementation of the Supreme Court’s ruling in order to protect the integrity of the court and uphold democracy.
The statement read: “The attention of Governor Alex Otti has been drawn to the news of his purported suspension alongside other prominent leaders of the Labour Party by the former national chairman, Julius Abure. The statement by Abure and his band of comedians is not only a joke taken too far, but an affront to democracy by a group of inconsequential irritants who are desperate to use Gov. Otti’s name to further their self-serving agenda.”
Otti clarified that the Supreme Court had unequivocally ruled that Abure is no longer the Labour Party chairman. He stressed that the judgment, in line with the party’s constitution, had led to the formation of a National Caretaker Committee led by Senator Nenadi Usman, which stripped Abure of any authority within the party.

Otti went on to accuse Abure of trying to avoid facing allegations of financial mismanagement, impersonation, and anti-party activities by rushing to the press with the suspension claims.
“We urge Nigerians to disregard Abure’s laughable statement and continue to see him and his co-conspirators as a group of clowns in desperate search of a crown they do not deserve,” the statement concluded.
