Court remands man for allegedly killing 22-year-old woman in Enugu

The Enugu East Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday remanded one Samuel Ani for allegedly killing one Roseline Onuigbo, 22.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Ngozi Edeani, remanded the accused person, who is facing two-count charge of murder and use of weapon, at the Enugu Correctional Centre pending an advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

Edeani added that the accused had right to apply for bail at the High Court.

She, however, adjourned the matter till July 5, for hearing.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that when the charges were read, the accused pleaded not guilty.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, ASP. Innocent Egbuaba, told the court that the accused and one other at the Enugu Correctional Centre had allegedly on Jan. 17, in Ngelewa Odoli- Ohafia, Oduma in Aninri Council Area of Enugu State, committed the offence.

Egbuaba said the accused disappeared after the alleged act while his brother, Christopher Ani was now at the Enugu Custodial Centre, was arrested and arraigned.

He said they killed her by beating her with plank.

According to him, the committed offences were punishable under section 494 and 274(1) of the Criminal Code, Cap 30, Vol.ll, Revised Laws of Enugu State, 2004.
