Dangote Group Aims for Nigerian Self-Sufficiency — Regional Director

Dangote Group has reiterated its commitment to fostering self-sufficiency across all sectors of Nigeria’s economy.

Dr. Abayomi Shittu, the South East Regional Director of Dangote Cement, emphasized this during the 35th Enugu International Trade Fair.

Shittu commended Dangote’s dedication to Nigeria and Africa’s economic advancement, highlighting the company’s industrial strategy focused on Production, Prosperity, Power, and Pride.

He noted Dangote’s significant sponsorship of the Enugu International Trade Fair, aligned with this year’s theme, “Promoting Made in Nigeria Products for Global Competitiveness.”

Highlighting Dangote’s contributions to value addition and industrial linkages, Shittu underscored the group’s role in transforming raw materials into finished goods. He emphasized Dangote’s commitment to industrialization, creating economic linkages, and promoting backward integration.

“We believe that industrialization is key to diversifying the economy. Our passion for industrialization, creating linkages, and value addition informs our investment decisions,” Shittu stated. “Our goal is to ensure Nigeria’s self-sufficiency in sectors where we operate: cement, agriculture, mining, and oil & gas.”

Shittu highlighted Dangote Cement’s role in achieving local cement production self-sufficiency and its impact on job creation and community development across Africa. He also noted the consolidation efforts in Dangote Sugar Refinery, Dangote Salt, NASCON Allied Industries, and Dangote Rice, which have positively impacted Nigeria’s economy.

Furthermore, Shittu provided updates on Dangote Fertiliser and Dangote Petroleum Refinery, emphasizing their contributions to Nigeria’s economic growth.

“To enhance youth employment and skill development, we have strategically recruited graduates of engineering and technology-driven fields, providing them with comprehensive training,” Shittu added.

Regarding their participation in the Trade Fair, Shittu expressed their goal to showcase innovative products, boost sales, enhance brand image, and explore new markets, ultimately contributing to job creation and economic development.

In his welcome address, President of Enugu Chamber Of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, ECCIMA, Mr. Odeiga Jideonwo praised Dangote Group’s consistent support, highlighting the group’s sponsorship upgrade as a testament to their commitment to the region.

He acknowledged Dangote’s transformative impact on the African continent, particularly in job creation and entrepreneurship.
