… cautions against artificial scarcity, calls on Nigerians to report MRS stations selling above N739
Dangote Petroleum Refinery has commenced the nationwide sale of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) at N739 per litre across all MRS Oil Nigeria Plc filling stations, marking another major step in its effort to deliver affordable fuel to Nigerians and stabilise the downstream petroleum market.
MRS operates over 2,000 stations nationwide, all of which are expected to implement the new pump price, ensuring that the benefits of the reduction reach Nigerians across the country. In a statement, the refinery commended marketers that have aligned with the new pricing regime and called on others to follow suit in the national interest.
“We commend MRS and other marketers who have demonstrated patriotism by reflecting the reduced price at the pump. We urge other marketers to join this effort as a show of support for Nigeria’s economic recovery,” the refinery said.
At a time historically marked by fuel scarcity and sharp price spikes, Dangote Petroleum Refinery has delivered a decisive market intervention, crashing pump prices when Nigerians would ordinarily brace for hardship. By supporting nationwide retail sales at N739, backed by a guaranteed supply of 50 million litres daily, the refinery has fundamentally altered the supply equation during the festive season.
Economic Sabotage: Why Dangote Wants Farouk Ahmed Investigated
Historically, the festive season has been marked by supply disruptions and profiteering, but the refinery’s sustained price cuts and steady supply are reshaping that narrative, providing relief to households, businesses, and transport operators nationwide. By refining locally at scale, the facility is reducing Nigeria’s exposure to volatile global markets, conserving foreign exchange, stabilising the Naira and strengthening energy security.
Dangote Refinery warned against attempts by unscrupulous operators to create artificial scarcity in response to the recent price reduction, particularly during the festive season, and called on relevant government agencies to act decisively.
“Any attempt to create artificial scarcity or manipulate supply in order to frustrate recent price reductions is unpatriotic and unacceptable. We call on the government and relevant regulatory authorities to remain vigilant and take firm action against such practices, especially at this critical festive period,” the statement added.
The refinery also appealed directly to consumers, urging Nigerians to resist purchasing fuel at inflated prices when cheaper, high-quality alternatives are readily available.
“We encourage Nigerians to avoid buying PMS at excessively high prices when they can access high-quality, locally refined fuel at N739 per litre from over 2,000 MRS stations nationwide. As more marketers come on stream, availability will continue to improve. Report any MRS filling station selling petrol above N739 per litre by calling 08001235264,” the refinery said. “We call on other petrol station operators to patronise our products so that the benefits of the current price reduction can be passed on to Nigerians across all outlets, not only MRS stations, ensuring broad-based relief and a more stable downstream market”
Dangote Petroleum Refinery reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring steady supply, price moderation, and energy security, noting that its operations are anchored on long-term national interest rather than short-term market pressures.
“Our objective remains clear: to ensure consistent supply of high-quality petroleum products at affordable prices for Nigerians, while supporting economic stability and reducing dependence on imports,” the refinery stated. “Dangote Petroleum Refinery will continue to work with responsible marketers to eliminate artificial scarcity, stabilise the market, and ensure uninterrupted fuel supply nationwide, especially during this festive season.”
Industry observers note that the latest price adjustment underscores the growing influence of domestic refining on Nigeria’s fuel market and signals increased competition that could further ease pump prices nationwide.
