The Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered an immediate crackdown on those responsible for Thursday’s explosion attack on the Nganzai Divisional Police Headquarters in Borno.

The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, issued a statement on Friday in Abuja confirming that the I-G’s directive followed the tragic incident that led to the death of two police officers, Inspector Bartholomew Kalawa and Corporal Mustapha Huzaifat.

In response, the I-G instructed the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 15, Mr Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, to mobilise sufficient resources and personnel to identify and apprehend the attackers.

The AIG is also expected to work with other security agencies to ensure the perpetrators are caught and held accountable under the law.

As investigations progress, Adejobi emphasised that the Nigeria Police Force will hold anyone who threatens national security accountable for their actions.

The I-G also conveyed his condolences to the families of the fallen officers, assuring that their sacrifice in the line of duty would not be forgotten. He confirmed that the victims’ benefits and entitlements would be swiftly provided to their families.

A statement from the Borno Police Command spokesperson, Kenneth Daso, described the attack, noting that at around 12:10 am on 9th January 2025, suspected Boko Haram militants attempted to invade the Nganzai Police Division.

Despite the officers’ gallant resistance in a gunfight, the terrorists threw hand grenades, one of which landed on a shelter tent behind the division, resulting in the fatalities.
