The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that a total of 2,030,627 candidates have registered for this year’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), marking the highest number of registrations in the board’s history.
This record-breaking figure was revealed in the board’s weekly bulletin in Abuja on Monday, noting that the registration for the examination closed on March 8, 2025. In comparison, over 1.9 million candidates applied for the UTME in 2024.
JAMB clarified that this number excludes candidates who registered to sit for the examination at foreign centres. Additionally, 200,115 candidates have opted to participate in the optional mock UTME, which is scheduled for April 5, 2025.
To ensure a fair and credible examination process, JAMB has introduced several innovative measures aimed at curbing cheating. These measures have already led to multiple arrests of candidates attempting to use forged A-level results for admission, showcasing the success of the new system in detecting fraudulent practices.
The board has advised all candidates to adhere strictly to the examination rules and regulations, warning against dishonest practices during the examination.
