Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi has urged a Labour Party legislator from the state to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) before it is too late.

Nwifuru made this statement on Monday in Ishiagu, Ivo Local Government Area, during an empowerment programme hosted by Honourable Nkemkanma Kama, the member representing Ohaoazara/Onicha/Ivo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

The governor explained that he attended the event because he believes that politics should not be driven by enmity.

The governor remarked that he participated in the event because politics should be centred on collaboration for the greater good of the state and the country.

“Kama is supposed to be my adversary as he belongs to a different party, but he has become my friend,” he said.

“After elections, the focus should shift to governance, which is why I came here with leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, including its chairman.”

He noted that Kama had embraced this philosophy by aligning with his administration.

“Anytime I engage in an activity, even something as simple as a child-naming ceremony, Kama is always present,” the governor added.

“I advise him to join the APC before the opportunity passes, as I will campaign for the candidate of my party in future elections. He should also ensure these items reach APC members so they can speak well of him when he eventually joins.”

In his response, Kama expressed gratitude to the governor and all the state’s leaders who attended the event, noting that Nwifuru regarded him as both a brother and a friend.

“I also extend my thanks to the leadership of the House of Representatives and the stakeholders of our constituency, as their selflessness and commitment reflect the communal spirit that binds us,” he said.

The lawmaker explained that the items being distributed included tricycles, motorcycles, grinding machines, sewing machines, hairdryers, knapsacks, and more.

“These items are meant to support our constituents in their various pursuits, whether in local transportation, commerce, personal development, and beyond,” he added.

“We selected the beneficiaries based on the governor’s inclusive and fair approach, which transcends political affiliation.”

Kama assured those who had not yet benefited that they would be included in future distributions.

Mrs. Nnenna Okoroafor, a beneficiary, expressed her appreciation for the gesture and called for further support from leaders.

The event was also attended by former Senate President Pius Anyim, Minister of Works Senator David Umahi, and other notable figures.
