A magistrate court in Kano has directed popular TikTok personalities, Mai Wushirya and Basira Yar Guda, to formalise their relationship through marriage within 60 days.
The order follows their arrest by officials of the Kano State Censorship Board after videos of the pair engaging in what the board described as “immoral and demeaning acts” circulated widely on social media.
According to the board, the clips — which showed Wushirya shirtless and displaying affection towards Yar Guda, a woman with dwarfism — breached state laws prohibiting the production or distribution of obscene or sexually suggestive material.
Wushirya was subsequently arraigned before the court and remanded in a correctional facility.
Delivering judgement on Monday, Magistrate Halima Wali instructed the Hisbah Board to oversee the marriage process between the two content creators. She further warned that failure to solemnise the union within the stipulated 60 days would constitute contempt of court.
The judge also directed the chairman of the Kano State Films and Video Censorship Board to supervise the implementation of the order.
The ruling comes amid a broader clampdown by the Kano State Government on social media influencers and entertainers accused of promoting immorality or violating censorship laws.
In recent months, several TikTok users, skit makers, and musicians have been arrested or sanctioned for producing or sharing content deemed offensive by the authorities.
