The Kwara State Government has confirmed that the teacher, Mrs. Fatima Amuzat, accused of assaulting a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, has been summoned and will face disciplinary action.

In a statement on Friday, Mr. Peter Amogbonjaye, Press Secretary for the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, quoted the state’s Commissioner for Education, Hajia Saadatu Modibbo-Kawu, as strongly condemning the assault.

The incident, which occurred at the Government Day Secondary School, Kulende, in Ilorin, involved a female corps member who was allegedly beaten by teachers after she went to the school to collect her clearance letter. The teachers reportedly became upset because the corps member failed to greet them properly.

Amogbonjaye stated that the Ministry’s Anti-Loitering Team, along with the management team from the Kwara State Teaching Service Commission, had visited the school for an unscheduled inspection to investigate the matter and restore calm.

The Commissioner condemned the assault, calling it “unacceptable in society and in Kwara State.” She emphasised that Kwara is known for its peace and harmony and affirmed that the state government would not tolerate actions that disrupt the peace in its educational institutions.

Hajia Modibbo-Kawu also appealed to the management of the NYSC and other stakeholders to remain patient, law-abiding, and continue their duties without fear.

“The concerned teacher has been summoned, and necessary disciplinary procedures will be taken accordingly,” Amogbonjaye concluded.
