Chelsea’s winless Premier League run has stretched to four games after Jean-Philippe Mateta’s late strike earned Crystal Palace a draw at Selhurst Park.

The Blues ended 2024 on a disappointing note, losing back-to-back matches and failing to win in three, and that poor form has carried over into 2025.

Cole Palmer gave Chelsea the perfect start, scoring his 13th league goal after 14 minutes following some excellent work from Jadon Sancho.

Chelsea pushed for more goals, but Nicolas Jackson wasted three chances, while Sancho, Moisés Caicedo, and Josh Acheampong all shot wide.

Palace didn’t register a shot on target until the 35th minute, with Jefferson Lerma’s effort comfortably collected by goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.

Despite dominating the first half, Chelsea were almost punished for their inability to add a second when Eberechi Eze shot narrowly wide just after the restart.

It was a sign that the game was becoming more evenly contested, with Palace starting to test a faltering Chelsea defence.

The Blues still had opportunities to seal the win, but Jackson, Pedro Neto, and Enzo Fernandez all fired wide.

Palace finally levelled the score with just under 10 minutes remaining when Mateta latched onto Eze’s square ball to tap in from close range.

The Eagles are now unbeaten in three league games, sitting 15th in the table, while Chelsea remain in fourth.
