Manchester City and Arsenal are both reportedly vying for the signature of Spanish defensive midfielder Martin Zubimendi, with the Premier League giants keen to bolster their midfield options.
City are particularly interested in Zubimendi following the injury to key man Rodri, who is expected to be sidelined for the remainder of the season. Arsenal, too, are understood to be monitoring the 25-year-old, who turned down a move to Liverpool during the summer.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, several top European clubs, including Liverpool, City, and Arsenal, have expressed interest in the Real Sociedad star. However, he explained that a move in January might prove difficult.

Romano told Men in Blazers: “There is a player who is a dream target for all the top clubs around Europe – for Liverpool, Man City, Arsenal and many others – it’s Martin Zubimendi. They all want to sign him from Real Sociedad, but the real point is that Zubimendi at the moment is still not opening the door to a January exit. Next summer could be different, but for January, the situation is still quiet around him, so I’m not sure it will be possible.”
Zubimendi, who has a £51.7 million release clause in his contract with Sociedad, has previously expressed a preference to remain at the club, stating, “The best solution is staying. I want to grow and develop here.” However, sources suggest that the midfielder may have had a change of heart and is now open to a Premier League move.
This shift in attitude has raised the stakes, with both Manchester City and Arsenal on high alert as they look to secure the Spaniard’s signature.
