The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) announced on Sunday that flight operations will be suspended on Monday.

Yunusa Abdulmunaf, President of AON, made a statement on Sunday.

Abdulmunaf indicated that the current pricing of Jet A1 at N700 per litre was unsustainable.

Noting that AON was aware of “frantic events during the previous 24 hours,” he stated that the organization stands steadfast by its decision.

Contrary to “subjective schools of thought,” he assured the airline owners that they were patriotic citizens doing all possible to safeguard the public.

The shutdown of operations, he added, was “a collective sacrifice for the common interest of our nation”.

Abdulmunaf regretted the position taken by Ibom Air, which announced it would not withdraw its services.

He added that “airlines are not on strike” but were private investors who do not depend on government funds.

“I use this medium to appeal to the conscience of our esteemed passengers for their understanding,” the statement added.
