The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has renewed its appeal for the release of the proscribed leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who has now been held in detention for four years.

Dr Ezechi Chukwu, the National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, made this call in a statement issued on Friday in Enugu.

He urged President Bola Tinubu to exercise his constitutional authority and diplomatic influence to secure Kanu’s release, in the interest of equity, fairness, and inclusive justice.

According to Dr Chukwu, it has now been four years since Kanu’s controversial arrest and detention in Kenya, prior to his extradition to Nigeria.

“The continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu presents a moral challenge to the credibility of Nigeria’s judicial system,” he said.

“Given that the manner of his extradition from Kenya was unlawful, and the legitimacy of the charges against him remains in question, one must ask: what justification is there for holding Kanu for four years without due process?”
