A heavy clash between Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) and Boko Haram terrorists at Gargaj village in Bama Local Government Area (LGA) of Borno State has resulted in heavy causalities on both sides.
It was learned that a high-ranking Boko Haram Commander, Elhaj Ousman, was killed in the duel which occurred last week.
The rival groups have been attacking communities in the north-east region of Nigeria since both camps fell apart due to leadership issues.
The groups have also since been having clashes, and Abubakar Shekau, leader of Boko Haram, was reportedly killed during one of such clashes in 2021.
Meanwhile, contrary to speculations , the Nigerian Army has denied ever pampering repentant terrorists, insisting that those who surrendered during the Boko Haram war were only treated humanely in line with the provisions of the law.
Speaking on Channels Television recently, the Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Chris Musa said: “we are not pampering them; we are just being in line with the statutory laws on the ground.”
