Troops Recover Two Aircraft Engines, Neutralise 88 Terrorists

The Defence Headquarters has announced that troops have recovered two calibrated aircraft engines from a long-time unidentified aircraft crash site in the North East. Additionally, the troops have eliminated 88 terrorists in the past week alone.

Maj.-Gen. Markus Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations, shared these updates while addressing the media on the ongoing operations of the armed forces on Thursday in Abuja. He explained that the recovered aircraft engines have been handed over to the Nigerian Air Force for further investigation.

During the same period, the troops apprehended 138 suspects, rescued 46 kidnapped hostages, and seized a large quantity of weapons and ammunition, including 55 AK47 rifles, 20 locally fabricated guns, eight dane guns, 18 pump action guns, 1,826 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 376 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, and 366 rounds of 7.62 x 12.7mm ammo, among others.

In the North East, troops under Operation Hadin Kai successfully facilitated the surrender of 65 terrorists, consisting of 12 adult males, 19 adult females, and 34 children. The operation also led to the neutralisation of 22 terrorists, the arrest of 13 others, the rescue of 34 kidnapped hostages, and the recovery of a significant cache of arms and ammunition.

In the North West, under Operation FASAN YAMMA, the troops neutralised 58 terrorists, arrested 11, and rescued 16 hostages. Meanwhile, Operation WHIRL PUNCH in other regions saw the apprehension of 51 violent extremists/criminals, along with the recovery of arms and other valuable items.

In the North Central, Operation Safe Haven neutralised one terrorist, apprehended 51 violent extremists, and rescued 11 hostages, while Operation Whirl Stroke neutralised three violent extremists, apprehended 14, and rescued 12 hostages.

In the South-South region, troops of Operation Delta Safe maintained pressure on crude oil thieves, destroying 42 illegal refining sites and recovering significant quantities of stolen and illegally refined crude oil. The operation also led to the discovery and destruction of numerous crude oil cooking ovens, storage tanks, and vehicles. Twenty-three suspected oil thieves were apprehended, and a variety of arms and ammunition were recovered.

In the South East, under Operation UDO KA, troops neutralised four IPOB/ESN terrorists, arrested six others, rescued four hostages, and recovered additional arms and ammunition.

All recovered items, arrested suspects, and rescued hostages have been handed over to the relevant authorities for further action.

Maj.-Gen. Kangye assured the public that the armed forces remain committed to their constitutional duty of protecting the lives and property of all Nigerians.
