The Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC) has not yet begun bulk sales or opened its purchase portal, as critical processes are still being finalised, according to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.).

In a statement on Friday, Mr Olufemi Soneye, Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd., clarified that currently, the petroleum products being sold are sourced from the Dangote Refinery, not the Port Harcourt Refinery.

The 60,000 barrels per day (bpd) capacity Port Harcourt Refinery, which recently began truck-out of petroleum products following its rehabilitation, has not yet set a price or commenced bulk sales, according to NNPC officials.

Some petroleum marketers and Nigerians have raised concerns about the refinery’s operations, especially regarding pricing. The Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) also confirmed that the PHRC has not yet released new prices for products. The association stated that it had been purchasing petrol using the old pricing structure while awaiting updates.

Soneye added, “Currently, the products we are selling originate from the Dangote Refinery and include applicable Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) fees.”

He further stated that products from the Port Harcourt Refinery are “exclusively for our retail stores at this stage” and that pricing would be periodically reviewed and adjusted as necessary to reflect operational realities.

“We advise the public to disregard any misleading information regarding pricing. Official announcements will be made if and when price reviews occur,” Soneye concluded.
