Eighteen of the present 22 members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly yesterday voted for the impeachment of the state deputy governor, Barrister Mahdi Aliyu Muhammad Gusau.
The Director General Press Affairs and Public Relations of the assembly, Mustapha Jafaru Kaura, said the decision of the House to vote for his impeachment followed a motion moved by the state deputy speaker and Chairman House Committee on Public Accounts, Hon Musa Bawa Musa Yankuzo, seconded by Hon Yusuf Alhassan Kanoma representing Maru North.
Immediately after the secondment of the motion, the chief presiding officer and Speaker of the House, Rt Hon Nasiru Mu’azu Magarya, directed the clerk, Shehu Saidu Anka, to effect voting by every member of the House who attended yesterday’s plenary as required by the law.
Shortly after voting, the Speaker, Magarya, passed a resolution of the House requesting the state Chief Judge, Justice Kulu Aliyu, to immediately constitute a panel to investigate all the allegations levelled against the deputy governor as contained in Section 188(5) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
At the plenary, the Speaker directed that each member of the House be served with the impeachment notice alongside all allegations levelled against him for their perusal and further necessary action.
