The Lagos State House of Assembly has warned the impeached Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, against fomenting trouble, urging him to respect the decision made by the majority of the Assembly members.
In a statement issued by the lawmaker representing Oshodi-Isolo Constituency 1, Hon. Ogundipe Stephen Olukayode, the Assembly reiterated its strong support for the newly elected Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, noting that over two-thirds of the Assembly members are firmly united behind her leadership.
The lawmakers expressed their unwavering commitment to the decision made on January 13, which led to the impeachment of Obasa, stating that they would defend the action taken and stand by their new Speaker.

“The position of the House remains the same, and nothing has changed,” the statement read. “The position being canvassed by former Speaker, Rt. Hon. Obasa, is uncalled for and unparliamentary.”
The lawmakers emphasised that the majority had democratically elected Obasa as Speaker for the 10th Assembly but had also, by majority decision, removed him. They reaffirmed their right as elected representatives to make such decisions in the interest of good governance and the harmonious functioning of the government.
“All members were elected from their various constituencies across the state and we all have the inalienable rights under the necessary statutory orders to remove our Principal Officers, including the Speaker,” the statement added.
The Assembly also appealed to Obasa to abandon his current stance and embrace peace, urging him to avoid any actions that could destabilise the political climate. The lawmakers made it clear that any attempt to heat up the polity would be firmly resisted by the majority who had already expressed their confidence in Rt. Hon. Meranda’s leadership.
“We want peace in Lagos, and peace is what we will achieve,” the statement concluded, calling for unity and cooperation in the interest of the state and its people.
