The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has unveiled Hon. Damilola Sonayon-James as its deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 election, pairing her with the party’s governorship flagbearer, Kadri Obafemi Hamzat.
The announcement was made by Lagos APC Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, who said Sonayon-James emerged after an extensive selection process that evaluated competence, leadership capacity, grassroots acceptance, loyalty to the party, and her ability to contribute to the continued development of Lagos State.
Ojelabi described the Badagry-born politician and Deputy State Woman Leader of the APC as a committed party loyalist with a proven track record in public service, community development, and political leadership.
According to him, the Hamzat/Sonayon-James ticket offers a blend of experience, innovation, grassroots connection, and visionary leadership capable of driving Lagos’ next phase of growth.
He called on residents to support the APC in the 2027 governorship election, describing the ticket as one focused on continuity, prosperity, and inclusive development.
At 41, Sonayon-James is a governance and development professional with more than 15 years of experience in public policy, institutional development, sustainability, risk governance, stakeholder engagement, and community development.
She previously served as Supervisor for Agriculture and Social Services in Badagry West Local Council Development Area, where she spearheaded initiatives in agriculture, women empowerment, youth inclusion, education, and community welfare.
Beyond public office, she has remained active in grassroots mobilisation, women’s leadership development, youth empowerment, and community advocacy across Lagos State.
Her emergence makes her one of the most prominent female political figures on the Lagos 2027 ballot, as the APC positions itself for what is expected to be a fiercely contested governorship race.
