The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, may call a halt to its ongoing strike shortly.

According to a union member who talked to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity, the striking lecturers are presently discussing halting their three-month strike.

According to him, the ban might last as little as three months, with discussions with the Federal Government continuing during the grace period.

He stated that if the government does not satisfy ASUU’s demands within three months, the strike will be indefinite.

This comes only hours after President Muhammadu Buhari urged the union to consider the plight of students and call off the strike.

The union commenced a warning strike on February 14 over the inability of the Federal Government to meet its demands and implement some agreements the two parties entered into previously.

The industrial action was on Monday, May 9, extended by another 12 weeks, which is expected to elapse on August 9.
