BET AWARDS: Cameroonian star beats Asake as Burna Boy wins

Nigerian singer, Asake lost the “Best New International” award to Cameroonian star, Libianca at the BET Awards 2023 on Sunday night in Los Angeles, United States of America.

Meanwhile Nigerian singer, Damini Ogulu, aka Burna Boy took home the Best International Act at the Awards.

The Nigerian singer was not present at the show, but he’s had an amazing last couple years. His 2022 album Love, Damini was a worldwide success, and he already took home a BET Award in the same category in 2019, 2020 and 2021.

The ‘Last Last’ crooner defeated French singer, Aya Nakamura, British superstars, Ella Mai, Stormzy, and Central Cee, and his compatriot, Ayra Starr to clinch the award.

With his victory, Burna Boy extended his record as the most awarded person in the BET Awards’ “Best International Act” category (4).

Since the creation of the BET Awards’ “Best International Act” in 2018, the category has been exclusively won by Nigerians, with Davido being the maiden winner.

Rising Nigerian music star, Tems won the “Best International Act” last year.
