Court admits guard, 2 others accused of impregnating minor to bail

A Magistrates ‘ Court sitting at Chediya, GRA Zaria Kaduna State on Monday granted a security guard and two others accused of impregnating a minor bail.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Bello Hamisu, a 65-year-old security guard; Tukur Aliyu, a 52-year-old motorcyclist and Aminu Umar, a 60-year-old farmer were arraigned on Sept 14.

They were charged with criminal conspiracy and defilement.

In a ruling, Magistrate Dorcas Kitchner, granted them bail on condition that each of them must present three respected persons and a Ward Head (Mai Anguwa) as sureties.

Kitchener also adjourned the matter until Oct.31 for summary trial.

She ordered that they should be remanded in the Zaria Correctional Centre if they fail to meet their bail conditions.

Earlier, The Prosecution Counsel,  ASP Aliyu Jibril told the court that they were charged with criminal conspiracy and defilement, contrary to Section 368 of the Penal Code Law of Kaduna State 2017.

Jubril told the court that Alhaji Nura Yusuf of Tsibiri village reported the matter to the police in Giwa Local Government Area on Tuesday.

He said that Yusuf, the guardian of the minor, said that the victim became pregnant on Aug. 1, and upon interrogation, she mentioned the names of the suspects as the only persons who defined her.

The prosecutor added that the defendants admitted that they committed the offence.
