Thugs have attacked the convoy of a former Governor of Ekiti State, Segun Oni, destroyed vehicles, and injured many of his supporters.

Oni, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in Ekiti, was attacked during a consultation process on Wednesday.

According to a statement by Oni’s Campaign Director, Media and Publicity, Jackson Adebayo, the thugs were armed with guns and machetes.

“Shortly after the Efon Local Government members and supporters of the SDP had converged at the venue to wait for the arrival of the party’s governorship candidate, Asiwaju Oni, the thugs started to shoot guns and attacked the SDP supporters with sticks and cutlasses.

“Some supporters were badly injured and vehicles in the convoy were damaged by thugs before the arrival of a detachment of police which overpowered the thugs,” Adebayo said.

The 2022 Ekiti State gubernatorial election will take place on June 18, 2022. Incumbent All Progressives Congress (APC) Governor Kayode Fayemi is term-limited and cannot seek re-election to a third term.
