Funke Akindele, Tunde Olaoye Take the Lead as Highest-Grossing Directors of 2024

Nigerian actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele, alongside director Tunde Olaoye, have been declared the highest-grossing film directors for 2024, thanks to their hit movie “Everybody Loves Jennifer”. The film has achieved a remarkable N1.6 billion at cinemas across Nigeria, solidifying their place at the top of the industry.

FilmOne made the announcement on Instagram (@filmoneng) on Wednesday, celebrating the success of the pair. Their groundbreaking achievement highlights the growing impact of Nigerian filmmakers in both domestic and global film industries.

Following them in second place is director Adebayo Tijani, who’s behind the box-office success of “Beast of Two Worlds: Ajakaju”, “Alakada Bad and Boujee”, and “Farmer’s Bride”. Kayode Kasum secured third place with films like “Ajosepe”, “All’s Fair in Love”, and “What About Us”.

Other notable directors on the list include Odunlade Adekola, who claimed fourth position for “Beast of Two Worlds: Ajakaju” and “Lakatabu”, and Adeoluwa Owu in fifth for “Queen Lateefah” and “When Love Strikes”.

Toka McBaror, director of “The Waiter”, is ranked sixth, while Jack Opukeme, director of “Farmer’s Bride”, takes seventh. Bolanle Austen-Peters, who directed “Funmilayo Ransome Kuti”, clinched the eighth spot, and Biodun Stephen secured ninth for “Muri & Ko”. Omoni Oboli rounded out the top 10 with “Wives on Strike: The Uprising”.
