The Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) has ordered the immediate closure of two off-campus female hostels — Al-Ansar Indabo facilities located at Hotoro and UDB Road in Kano — citing Immoral behaviour among residents.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the university’s Vice President of Campus Life, Dr. Hamza Garba, who said the decision followed repeated reports of misconduct and non-compliance with the university’s student housing regulations.

Key Reasons for Closure include Immoral behaviour among residents, Poor water and electricity supply, Student violence and security risks, Unauthorised late-night movements and Shared accommodations with unknown tenants

“These issues pose a serious threat to the well-being of our students,” Dr. Garba said, adding that the hostels’ continued operation conflicted with MAAUN’s core standards for student welfare and discipline.

All students residing in the affected hostels are required to vacate immediately after the current semester examinations, and the university warned that students who fail to comply do so at their own risk.

“Management is working closely with relevant security agencies to ensure total compliance,” the statement said.

MAAUN also clarified that it has withdrawn all official recognition and approval of the hostels and will not be held liable for any incidents that occur should students continue to stay there.

Students and parents seeking guidance on alternative accommodations have been urged to contact the Office of the Vice President, Campus Life via email at vp-campuslife@maaun.edu.ng for a list of university-approved and secure hostels.
