The Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Kogi, has announced a three-day period of mourning following the tragic killing of two of its students by kidnappers.
The Registrar of CUSTECH, Ms. Olufunke Hudson, conveyed this somber news in a statement released on Sunday.
The deceased students, James Michael-Anajuwe and Musa Hussein, both first-year students in Information Technology and Software Engineering respectively, were part of a group of students abducted on May 9 while preparing for their exams scheduled to commence on May 13.
Efforts by security personnel and local hunters have led to the rescue of twenty-one of the abducted students.
Hudson expressed profound sorrow on behalf of the university management, stating, “It is with deep shock and pain that the management of CUSTECH is mourning our beloved slain students.” In honor of the departed students, all university activities will be subdued from May 27 to May 29.
The registrar extended sympathies to the families and colleagues of the deceased students, urging them to find solace in God during this trying time.
She assured that the state government, under the leadership of Gov. Usman Ododo, is vigorously pursuing the safe release of the remaining abducted students and called for calm among the populace.
Meanwhile, Education For All (E4A), a Non-Governmental Organization, has strongly denounced the murder of the two kidnapped students from CUSTECH, despite ongoing negotiations with their parents. Nasir Ibrahim, the Publicity Secretary of E4A, labeled the killings as a despicable act aimed at instilling fear among young students and discouraging them from pursuing education.
