Nigeria discharges 1,083 COVID-19 patients, with drop in new cases

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) says it confirmed 662 new COVID-19 cases in the country on Friday.

The new daily infection figure is a big drop from the 877 recorded on Thursday, 869 on Wednesday and the 1,572 cases confirmed on Tuesday.

According to data posted on NCDC verified Twitter’s handle early on Saturday, 10 persons died of COVID-19 while 1,083 patients were discharged.

“Our discharges today include community recoveries in Lagos (535), Kaduna (73) and Imo State (69), managed in line with guidelines,” the public health agency said.

It said the latest figures have brought the total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country since its outbreak to 150,908, discharge patients- 127,500 and the overall death toll – 1,813.

The agency said new cases of the virus were recorded in 22 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) with Lagos topping the list with I67 follow by FCT-166 and Ogun-45.

Others are Kano-44, Akwa Ibom-35, Edo-34, Rivers-27, Kaduna-23, Osun-23, Kwara-22, Taraba-22, Oyo-20, Ondo-19 Plateau-14, Abia-11, Imo-11, Nasarawa-7 and Niger-6.

The list also includes Bayelsa-5, Delta-5, Enugu-3 Ekiti-2 and Jigawa-1.
