Omoyele Sowore, a former Presidential aspirant and the convener of Revolution Now, has been arrested during the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the proscribed separatist group, Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), at the Federal High Court in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

Sowore’s arrest followed an altercation he had with police officers stationed at the entrance of the court after he made an attempt to enter the court with a cameraman.

He was taken to a police van temporarily alongside some IPOB supporters who were earlier arrested at the court premises.

Ahead of the much publicised trial of Nnamdi Kanu today, July 26, 2021, the Department of State Services (DSS) had enlisted only 10 journalists to cover the court proceedings.

Amnesty International condemned the move by the DSS, saying the government was adamant on gagging the media.
