Some chieftains of the People Democratic Party (PDP) are in talks with the former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi to persuade him into joining the party ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Thelead.ng understands that negotiation are on-going with some of the loyalists of the former Minister of Transportation.

Although, the negotiations are still in the early stage, it was gathered that there are positive signals from the camp of the former governor.

Meanwhile the presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar is expected to meet with Governor of Rivers state, Nyesome Wike over the 2023 general election.

Thelead.ng had earlier reported that the London meeting between the Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Wike had unsettled the PDP.

Wike, who came second during the presidential primaries of the PDP has been at loggerheads with Atiku following the selection of Delta State governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, as the vice presidential candidate of the party.

Reports have it that the PDP presidential candidate left the country for Paris on Monday.

A reliable source hinted that Atiku will be open to meeting with Wike and his camp which included three PDP governors -Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia and Samuel Ortom of Benue – who are all in Paris.

Another source who pleaded not to be named said Atiku has made several efforts in the past to discuss with Wike.

“Wike is not telling the truth by saying Atiku has not reached out to him. I am aware that he has placed calls to Wike which the Rivers state governor either rejected or decided not to answer or return such calls,” the source said.

However, the Media Adviser to Atiku, Paul Ibe, who said he was not aware of the meeting between his principal and Wike, maintained that the former VP is open to reconciliation.

“His Excellency Atiku Abubakar remains unequivocally committed to the mediation process aimed at bringing to a closure the fallout from the nomination processes,” he said.

Efforts to get Ebiri’s reaction on the meeting between Atiku and Wike proved abortive as of the time of filing this report as he didn’t respond to the message sent to his known phone number as well as calls made.
