Premier League: Erik ten Hag speaks on stripping Harry Maguire Man United captaincy

Incoming Manchester United boss, Erik ten Hag has said he was looking forward to working with current captain Harry Maguire next season.

Hag further described the England defender as a ‘great player’.

Maguire has come under huge scrutiny following a series of poor performances by the England international in the concluding season.

There have also been several calls by pundits and fans of the club for him to be stripped of the captaincy.

He already has his own ideas about where the squad must be strengthened, with a centre-back, a right-back, a central midfielder and a forward all priorities.

But Ten Hag has confirmed that Maguire is part of his plans despite his displays this term.

Asked whether Maguire will retain the captaincy, Ten Hag said: “I have to repeat: next season is a different season but I think he did a great job, he is a great player,” he told MUTV.

“He has achieved a lot, also the contribution to Man United, so I’m looking forward to working with him.”
