The Lagos State Police Command exhumed the body of a 28-year-old graduate from Lagos State University (LASU), Mr. Adedamola Ogunbode, on Wednesday. The body was found in a shallow grave behind the LASU fence in the Ojo Campus.

Mr. Ogunbode, a Political Science Education graduate, had been missing since January 16, 2025. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the police had earlier arrested four suspects and were searching for four others allegedly linked to the murder.

According to the police, the suspects allegedly transferred all the money from the deceased’s bank account and shared it among themselves. Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that one of the suspects led the authorities to the grave site.

“On January 16, the Ojo Police Division received a report about the young man’s disappearance. After Commissioner of Police Mr. Olohundare Jimoh assumed duty on February 18, he instructed the State Criminal Investigation Department to investigate the case. This led to the case being upgraded from a missing person to a suspected murder,” Hundeyin said.

The investigation led to the arrest of one principal suspect, who confessed to the crime and subsequently directed the police to the location where Ogunbode was buried. Hundeyin assured that the police would apprehend the remaining suspects and conclude the investigation soon.

“We have now located the body, and the investigation is nearing completion. We will intensify efforts to arrest the remaining suspects,” Hundeyin stated. He also assured the public that justice would be served, adding, “The suspects will definitely be prosecuted to ensure that justice is served. We also commiserate with the family of the deceased and thank the Lagos State Government for its immense support in crime fighting within the state.”

On Monday, Hundeyin revealed that the police had sealed a church attended by one of the arrested suspects after receiving intelligence reports about a planned arson in retaliation. The church was sealed as a precautionary measure to prevent any violence.

The exhumation site was witnessed by various officials, including police personnel, health workers, local government representatives, LASU students, lecturers, and Ojo residents.
