The Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has discharged all the rescued victims of the Oriire school abduction who were admitted for medical treatment, with only one pupil remaining on admission.
A hospital source confirmed on Thursday that the remaining pupil is receiving treatment for congenital heart disease, while all other rescued victims have been certified medically fit and reunited with their families.
According to the source, 44 rescued abductees were admitted to the hospital after they were officially handed over to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde by military authorities on Monday.
The victims were discharged in phases after undergoing medical evaluation and treatment.
“As of this morning (Thursday), eight pupils and one teacher were still on admission. However, they have all been discharged except the pupil with congenital heart disease,” the source said.
The source added that the remaining child is responding to treatment and continues to receive specialised medical care.
“Also, the two pupils who were brought back to the hospital after being discharged earlier were attended to. As of now, there is only one patient on the admission list,” the source added.
Earlier on Thursday, the Chief Medical Director of LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Prof. Olawale Olakulehin, had confirmed that eight pupils and one teacher were still receiving treatment, assuring that they would be discharged once doctors certified them fit.
The rescued pupils and teachers regained their freedom after spending 56 days in captivity following their abduction in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Their release followed a sustained military operation that led to their rescue and subsequent transfer to the Oyo State Government before they were admitted to LAUTECH Teaching Hospital for medical assessment and treatment.
