Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has strongly denied claims suggesting he is preparing to contest the 2027 presidential election, labelling a recently circulated video as “senseless” and the work of “confused, witless detractors.”

In a statement signed by Ohiare Michael, Director of the Yahaya Bello Media Office, the footage — which purported to show a fresh rally in support of Bello’s alleged 2027 bid — was described as deliberately misleading. The office clarified that the video in question was originally recorded in 2022, ahead of the 2023 general election.

“Our attention has been drawn to another senseless post by mischief makers, who have no other job than to fabricate falsehood and disseminate same to mislead unsuspecting Nigerians,” the statement began.

The statement accused political opponents of trying to drive a wedge between Bello and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that this is not the first attempt to stir discord.

“It is not the first time detractors and their co-travellers have flown absolute falsehood with the aim of setting the former governor against our President… This latest attempt is sheer insanity,” it added.

The media office highlighted that the rally banners clearly displayed dates from 2022, further debunking claims that the event was recent.

“In their desperate bid to create a crisis where there is none, they forgot the 2022 dates written boldly on the banners on display,” the office pointed out.

No 2027 Ambition, Full Support for Tinubu
Firmly rejecting any 2027 presidential ambition, Bello’s team reiterated that the former governor remains fully committed to the success and re-election of President Tinubu.

“Our principal… has no 2027 presidential ambition,” the statement clarified. “He remains firmly in support of President Tinubu and his administration.”

The statement further praised the Tinubu-led government for its performance amid global challenges.

“The indices cannot lie. The President and his team have done exceedingly well for the country, despite global challenges.”

The media office urged the public to disregard the viral post, describing it as “a senseless post by a confused, witless mind,” and called on well-meaning Nigerians to remain focused on nation-building.

Bello’s rebuttal comes amid a wave of endorsements within the All Progressives Congress (APC) backing President Tinubu for a second term in 2027.
