2023 presidency: PDP settles for Wike as Atiku’s running mate

Barely any last-minute change, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, will submit the name of Rivers state governor, Nysome Wike, as the party’s vice-presidential candidate.

Wike, who came second at the just concluded presidential primary of the PDP was favoured ahead of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state, Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedoia of Imo state among others.

According to reports, a source close to the committee on Atiku’s running mate revealed that they have to settle for Governor Wike, following his contributions to the development of the party.

It should be recalled that the National Chairman of the PDP Iyorchia Ayu while addressing the committee on Atiku’s running mate headed by deputy national Chairman, Umaru Damagun, were tasked to come up with Atiku’s running mate for the party’s consideration.

It was noted that at the end of the meeting each member “ had to sign the final decision”.

Also, The All Progressive Congress Presidential Candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to pick a Northern Muslim from the North East as his running mate for the 2023 presidential election.

There have been lots of speculations on who will be the running mate of the APC candidate, where a series of discussions have been going on and everyone is expecting to see the outcome from the party presidential candidate.
