An Ota Magistrates ‘Court in Ogun, on Wednesday, sentenced a 31-year-old man, Jamiu Oguntola, to three years imprisonment for assaulting a police officer on lawful duty.
The Magistrate, Mrs O.O. Fadairo, summarily tried Oguntola after he had pleaded guilty to the two-count charge of assault and resisting arrest.
Fadairo, thereafter, sentenced Oguntola to three years imprisonment, without an option of fine.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the convict, whose house address was not given, committed the offences on Jan. 25, at about 2.00 p.m. at Cele Bus-Stop, Itele Awori, Ota.
Adaraloye said that the convict assaulted one Insp Saliu Mathew while on his lawful duty, beating him thrice on his left hand, even as he resisted arrest.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 335 and 356(2) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
