The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has debunked claims that Senator Samuel Anyanwu co-signed the nomination form of its candidate for the upcoming Anambra State Governorship Election slated for November 8, 2025.

The party clarified that the nomination form submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was duly signed by Acting National Chairman, Amb. Iliya Damagum, and Acting National Secretary, Arch. Setonji Koshoedo.

PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, described reports alleging Anyanwu’s involvement as false, misleading, and a calculated attempt to stir confusion within the party ranks.

“The Nomination Form for the PDP candidate in the Anambra governorship election was signed by the duly authorized officers — Damagum and Koshoedo — in a letter dated May 7, 2025, with reference number PDP/DOM/GF.2/VOL.1J/25-065,” Ologunagba stated.

He emphasized that Senator Anyanwu, who previously served as National Secretary, is no longer in that position, and therefore has no legal authority to act on behalf of the party in that capacity.

The party further referenced its internal resolution from the 600th National Working Committee (NWC) meeting, where it officially directed the Deputy National Secretary to act as National Secretary, in accordance with Section 36 (2) of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017). This resolution was communicated to INEC on May 5, 2025, in another letter signed by Damagum and Koshoedo.

“Section 36 (2) clearly empowers the Deputy National Secretary to act in the capacity of National Secretary whenever so directed by the party,” the statement added.

Ologunagba also stressed that the INEC nomination portal’s timestamp confirms that the Commission acted based on the documents co-signed by the party’s legally recognized acting officers.

The PDP cautioned members and the public to disregard the fake report and forged letter being circulated on social media, reiterating the legitimacy of its processes.

“The NWC remains committed to credible internal democracy. We urge members to stay focused and united as we prepare for the upcoming NEC meeting and National Convention,” Ologunagba concluded.
