A Nigerian soldier, who was abducted over the weekend by terrorists near Birnin-Gwari in Kaduna State, has reportedly been killed by his abductors.

The soldier, simply identified as Christian who is said to hail from Benue State, was abducted while in military uniform, with the terrorists placing a N30 million ransom to secure his release.

It was gathered that the terrorists could not wait for his family’s intervention before killing him.

A cousin of the deceased soldier and renowned journalist, Oche Agwuchi, made this known in a post on his Facebook page on Monday.

He said: “Last night I heard it was a kidnap and they were demanding 30 million. I knew it had gone bad because you were a soldier dressed in uniform. Today, the really sad news came that you were killed by those terrorists near Birnin Gwari in Kaduna. I am pained. Christian, my cousin, a hero, died trying to secure us. May your soul rest in peace bro.”

Kaduna State has of recent continues to witness regular terrorist attacks.

Just last week, a train heading from Abuja to Kaduna was bombed by the terrorists leading to the death of about eight persons and abduction of scores of others.

The state governor, Nasir El-Rufai, who has blamed the Nigerian military of not doing enough to smoke out the terrorists from their hideouts in forest, had a few days ago threatened to engage the services of foreign mercenaries to crush the rampaging terrorists.
