Chelsea has secured a spot in the semi-finals of the UEFA Women’s Champions League following a draw against Ajax, with Mayra Ramirez’s goal at Stamford Bridge adding to the three unreplied goals scored in the away leg, ensuring a comfortable aggregate win.

Despite a much-changed lineup, Chelsea faced challenges from Ajax throughout the match, with both sides creating opportunities.

Despite being ahead 3-0 from the first leg in Amsterdam, Chelsea manager Emma Hayes had cautioned that Ajax would approach the second meeting with more freedom and aggression. Ajax indeed proved to be formidable opponents, with Romee Leuchter posing a threat early on.

Chelsea had their own chances, with Guro Reiten narrowly missing the target after a promising buildup. There were moments of excitement as Ramirez almost set up Beever-Jones for a clear chance, but the opportunity slipped away.

However, Chelsea fans were soon celebrating as Ramirez capitalized on a defensive error to score, extending Chelsea’s lead to 4-0 on aggregate. Despite her efforts, Ramirez missed another opportunity to score before halftime.

In the second half, Ajax found the back of the net, leveling the scores on the night. Despite Chelsea’s efforts to regain control, Ajax managed to capitalize on a defensive lapse, leaving the second-leg scores even with 65 minutes played.

Ajax captain Sherida Spitse’s early header and missed opportunities highlighted the challenges faced by Chelsea’s defense, but ultimately, Chelsea’s resilience and first-leg advantage ensured progression to the next round.

Although the performance was at times scrappy, Chelsea’s lead from the first leg eased the tension, securing their spot in the semi-finals.

Chelsea will await the winner between reigning European champions Barcelona and Norwegian side Brann, with Barcelona leading 2-1 from the first leg.
