Dangote Cement Plc, Ibese Plant and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have moved to strengthen their partnership on road safety, with the Corps proposing the establishment of a Special Marshal Unit within the company’s plant.
The proposal was made by the newly deployed Ogun State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, during a courtesy visit to Dangote Cement’s Ibese Plant.
The engagement focused on strengthening road safety awareness, improving driver competence and promoting compliance with traffic regulations across Ogun State, particularly among organisations operating large fleets and professional drivers.

Ogunjobi commended Dangote Cement for its longstanding support for the FRSC and its contribution to road safety initiatives, describing the company as one of the Corps’ dependable corporate partners.
“Dangote Cement has remained a dependable partner of the Federal Road Safety Corps over the years, and we deeply appreciate the support we have continued to receive from the company,” he said.
He noted that the company’s extensive transportation and logistics operations made it an important stakeholder in efforts to improve road safety.
“As an organisation with extensive logistics and transportation operations, Dangote Cement understands the importance of safety on our roads. This shared commitment provides a strong foundation for even greater collaboration between our two institutions,” Ogunjobi said.
The Sector Commander stressed that road safety could not be achieved by the FRSC alone, calling for stronger collaboration among government agencies, private companies, transport operators and road users.
“Road safety is not the responsibility of FRSC alone. It requires collective action from government agencies, private sector organisations, transport operators and road users,” he said.
Ogunjobi proposed the establishment of an FRSC Special Marshal Unit within the Ibese Plant, saying it would provide a structured platform for promoting road safety advocacy and best practices among employees, drivers and transport operators.
He said the proposed unit could support specialised driver training, regular sensitisation programmes and proactive safety campaigns aimed at reducing road crashes.
“We would like to see the establishment of an in plant FRSC Special Marshal Unit that will serve as a platform for promoting road safety advocacy and best practices among staff and transport operators,” he said.
He also assured Dangote Cement of the Corps’ readiness to provide technical support through continued engagement, capacity building and safety enlightenment initiatives.
Responding, the Plant Director of Dangote Cement Plc, Ibese Plant, Ayyagri Subbaraidu, described the FRSC as a critical stakeholder in the company’s operations, noting that transportation was central to its business.
“The Federal Road Safety Corps plays a strategic role in our operations because transportation is a vital component of our business. We therefore recognise and appreciate the tremendous work being done by the Corps in ensuring safer roads and protecting lives,” Subbaraidu said.
He said safety remained a core component of Dangote Cement’s operational philosophy and long term growth strategy.
According to him, the company’s Vision 2030 places emphasis on responsible operations, sustainability and stronger stakeholder partnerships, with road safety forming an important part of that commitment.
“Safety is not merely a regulatory requirement for us; it is a core value that guides how we operate every day,” he said.
Subbaraidu added that the company’s responsibility extended beyond the safe movement of its products to ensuring that its drivers, contractors, employees and other road users interacting with its operations were protected.

The Plant Director welcomed the FRSC’s proposals, particularly those relating to driver education and safety awareness, saying they aligned with Dangote Cement’s commitment to continuous improvement in health, safety and operational excellence.
He assured the Corps that the company would continue to explore initiatives to strengthen the existing partnership and improve road safety.
“Dangote Cement remains ready to work hand in hand with the FRSC in advancing road safety campaigns, improving driver competence, enhancing compliance, and creating safer roads for all,” Subbaraidu said.
The engagement ended with both organisations expressing confidence that deeper collaboration would contribute to safer transportation, improved driver behaviour and greater compliance with road safety regulations across Ogun State.
