Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has publicly declared his support for the political coalition led by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, ending months of political uncertainty and formally backing the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general election.
Speaking on Wednesday during the commissioning of the Rivers Medical Industries Project in Port Harcourt, Fubara announced that he would support APC governorship candidate Kingsley Chinda, while urging his supporters to rally behind all candidates of what he described as the “rainbow coalition.”

“We have made peace in the state, and we have a total agreement,” the governor said.
“I am supporting our rainbow party, our rainbow coalition. President Bola Tinubu is our president and is the one we are supporting.
“OK Chinda is the governorship candidate that I am supporting, and anybody who believes in me will support him and every candidate under the rainbow.”
Fubara also told his loyalists that there was no reason to remain outside the coalition, declaring that he had fully reunited with his political family.
“For those of you saying, ‘Fubara, let’s stay, we want to collect something before we run,’ there is nothing to collect. I am already in the family. I have gone back to our family. So please, wherever you are, give your total support to that coalition,” he said.
Chinda, a former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, emerged the APC governorship candidate after winning the party’s primary in May as the sole contestant.
Fubara had initially been screened alongside Chinda for the APC governorship primary but later withdrew from the race, explaining that his decision was a sacrifice made in the interest of peace, unity and political stability in Rivers State.
Fubara’s endorsement marks the latest chapter in the reconciliation between him and Wike after a prolonged political crisis that divided Rivers State.

The rift, which began shortly after Fubara assumed office in 2023, pitched the governor against his political mentor and triggered months of institutional conflict, including impeachment attempts by lawmakers loyal to Wike, litigation and intervention by the Presidency.
The crisis eventually led to political negotiations between both camps, culminating in a peace agreement that has gradually reunited the former allies.
As part of the realignment, several of Fubara’s loyalists were reportedly disqualified from contesting the Rivers State House of Assembly primaries, while aspirants aligned with Wike secured the party’s tickets.
Wednesday’s declaration is the clearest indication yet that the reconciliation has been sealed, with Fubara openly endorsing Wike’s preferred political platform, expressing support for President Bola Tinubu, and directing his supporters to back APC candidates in the 2027 elections.
