The Nigeria Police Force has outlined the official process for obtaining a Police Character Certificate and Tinted Glass Permit through its Police Specialised Services Automation Project (POSSAP), urging applicants to complete most of the application online before visiting designated police formations for biometric capture.
According to the police, applications for both services begin with the completion of an online request form on the POSSAP portal.
For a Police Character Certificate, applicants are required to provide their preferred means of identification, which may be a National Identification Number (NIN), Bank Verification Number (BVN) or International Passport.

Other required information includes full name, phone number, email address, gender, state of residence, local government area, residential address and optional alternative contact details.
For the Tinted Glass Permit, applicants are expected to complete four stages: selecting the permit service, filling out the online request form, confirming submitted information and making the required payment through the portal.
The police said applicants for the permit would provide the same personal information required for the Police Character Certificate.
The Force also issued several guidelines for applicants.
It stated that approval or rejection of applications would be based on operational guidelines and security considerations.
It warned that submission of false information, forged documents or fake biometric data would result in automatic rejection of applications and could attract legal penalties.
Applicants residing in Nigeria are also required to appear in person at their selected police command or formation on their scheduled appointment date for biometric capture.
The police noted that each application attracts a one-time, non-refundable processing fee, which must be paid only through the POSSAP portal using the invoice generated during the application process.
